The top bar of this medal is decorated with Independence Hall at left with the Liberty Bell at center flanked by the year “18-99” followed by the Arms of the City of Philadelphia. Atop of the bar is a cornice type design while at bottom is a flowing riband that reads “PHILADELPHIA.” Reverse still has the original pin.

Ribbon is half gold and half blue with silver lettering that reads “NATIONAL ASSN. UNION EX. PRISONERS OF WAR.” Ribbon is in clean, excellent condition.

Suspended from the ribbon is a circular medal with “GAR” at top and “33RD NATIONAL ENCAMPMENT” around the edge. At center is the association logo of a prisoner being attacked by a dog inside a stockade with a cannon in each corner pointing toward the prisoner. There is a slight bit of tarnish on the drop.   [ad]
