Blue ribbon that meas. approx. 2.00 inches wide x 5.50 inches long with black printing on face. Top reads 49TH MASS. REG’T. ASSOCIATION ELEVENTH ANNUAL RE-UNION DALTON, SEPT. 6, 1877.”
Ribbon is in good condition with clear printing. The very top has some fraying and there is some light surface dirt.
The 49th Massachusetts Infantry was raised from September to October 1862 to serve 9 months. After garrison service in New York the regiment was part of Banks Expedition to Louisiana. During its service the regiment saw action at Monticeno Bayou, Plains Store, Port Hudson and Donaldsonville. The regiment was mustered out in September of 1863 suffering a loss of 106 killed, wounded or captured with 84 more men dying of disease. [AD]
