Brass drop features a raised image of Lady Liberty placing a crown on the head of a soldier, who is holding his musket. In the background are wheat stalks and an eagle mounted on a pedestal. Below this reads, “1861- 1865”. Reverse shows a laurel wreath encircling the words, “THE STATE OF OHIO TO MICH. LOTZ, VETERAN, CO. E. 58TH REGT. OHIO VOLUNTEER INFT.”.
Michael Lotz enlisted on November 4, 1861 as a Private. On December 30, 1861 he mustered into Co. “E”, 58th Ohio Infantry. He mustered out on September 16, 1865 at Vicksburg, MS. On December 26, 1864 he transferred from Co. “E” to Co. “B”. [sm]
