Wooden cane has applied handwritten label near the top that reads, “CUT IN THE CENTER OF 7 PINES BATTLE - FIELD WHERE 15000 SOLDIERS WERE KILLED MAY 31ST & JUNE 1ST 1862. BAT. FOUGHT BY LEE & McCLELLAN. BAT. FIELD”. Writing below this is illegible. Cane is slightly crooked. Measures approximately 34” long.
Wood shows light surface scratches and scattered wormholes. Solid with no cracks.
Canes made from battlefield wood were very popular with the veterans and are highly collectable items. [sm]
