This blue cotton banner meas. approx. 33.50 x 34.00 inches and is in excellent condition.

Heavily inked at center are Union and Confederate flags. Superimposed over them are two shaking hands, one shows a blue sleeve and the other gray. This is surrounded by a white double border with white lettering that reads “NATIONAL ANTIETAM COMMEMORATION 1862 SEPTEMBER 1937.”

Ink is in excellent condition and the colors are perfect. There is some minor scattered ink loss in the flags here and there from age and storage but not enough to detract from the beauty of the banner.

Across the top is a white binding with brass grommets in each corner.

President Roosevelt appointed US Senator Millard Tydings of Maryland chair of the National Antietam Commemoration Commission, with Senator Radcliffe, Congressman Lewis and General Reckord of Maryland, Senator Byrd of Virginia, and Congressman Plumley of Vermont.
