Light blue ribbon that meas. approx. 3.00 inches wide x 8.00 inches long with dark blue printing on face. The dates “1862” and “1905” appear in opposite corners at top. Centered below the dates is a 19th Corps Badge. In English script on the body of the ribbon is “THIRTY-EIGHTH ANNUAL RE-UNION 49TH MASS. REGIMENT CHESHIRE, THURSDAY AUGUST 24TH, 1905.”
Ribbon is in very nice condition with a clean surface and clear printing.
The 49th Massachusetts Infantry was raised from September to October 1862 to serve 9 months. After garrison service in New York the regiment was part of Banks Expedition to Louisiana. During its service the regiment saw action at Monticeno Bayou, Plains Store, Port Hudson and Donaldsonville. The regiment was mustered out in September of 1863 suffering a loss of 106 killed, wounded or captured with 84 more men dying of disease. [ad]
