Ribbon is red with gold printing. Ribbon meas. approx. 2.50 x 7.00 inches and is made of a shorter ribbon over the top of a longer one. At top is a gold crossed cannons with a numeral “1” above it. Lettering reads “FIRST CONNECTICUT HEAVY ARTILLERY ANNUAL REUNION NEW LONDON, CONN. JUNE 10TH 1891. S. J. MILLER, PRESIDENT. E. C. DOW, SEC’Y AND TREAS.”

Ribbon has one horizontal fold line. It shows some light edge wear but is otherwise good.

The 1st Connecticut Heavy Artillery was originally raised as the 4th Connecticut Infantry but was changed to Heavy Artillery in May of 1861.

The regiment saw action on the Peninsula, Mine Runs, Bermuda Hundred and Petersburg where they operated the famous mortar known as “The Dictator.”

During its service it lost 227 officers and men killed and died of wounds or disease.  [ad]
