RARE REUNION RIBBON FOR FAMOUS GETTYSBURG CONFEDERATE DIVISION

$495.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 286-551

White ribbon meas. approx. 6.50 inches long by 2.25 inches wide with a gold Virginia State Seal at center with “PICKETT’S MEN” in gold lettering above and “AUGUST 1898 / PHLIADELPHIA” below.

Ribbon is in good condition with three or four small scattered stress separations from age. Bottom of the ribbon is bordered with fringe. One or two individual fringes are missing off of one end but otherwise all is in nice condition.

Of course “PICKETT’S MEN” was composed of veteran members of Pickett’s celebrated Confederate division and included men who made the now world famous charge at Gettysburg on July 3, 1863. One of the Union units defending against that charge was the Philadelphia Brigade composed of the 69th, 71st, 72nd and 106th Pennsylvania Infantry regiments. In August of 1898 surviving members of the Philadelphia Brigade invited Pickett’s Men to a reunion in Philadelphia. This ribbon was produced to commemorate that reunion.  [ad]
