White ribbon measures approx. 6.25 x 2.00 inches. Top edge has a stamped brass scrollwork border from which an American flag ribbon hangs. The flag ribbon is gathered and has a celluloid button hanging from it that has a 16th Corps badge and the legend “35TH N.J. VOLS.” The main ribbon is white (now yellowed with age) with silver lettering that reads “1863-1896 SEVENTH RE-UNION 35TH REGT. N.J. VET. VOLS, AT FLEMINGTON, N.J. SEPT. 7, 1896.” Ribbon has light surface dirt but all printing is readable and colors are strong. Reverse has nice makers label and pin.
The 35th New Jersey served its year and a half in the Army of the Tennessee in the 16th and later the 17th Corps and was active in the Atlanta Campaign and the March to the Sea. During their service the regiment lost 159 officers & men killed, died of wounds and disease out of 1711 enrolled.
