The top bar of the badge is a white metal frame around a strip of celluloid that reads “9^TH N. J. VET. VOLS.” From this is suspended a plain white ribbon with a cloth US flag on a printed silver pole. Attached to the end of this ribbon is a celluloid button with a photo of a veteran in civilian clothes. The back of the button reads “EIGHTEENTH ANNUAL REUNION SURVIVORS OF 9^TH REG’T N. J. VET. VOLS. TRENTON, N. J. SEPTEMBER 16^TH, 1903.

The item is in good condition with light surface dirt and some discoloration around the edges of the photograph. Pin is present on back.

The 9^th New Jersey was active in North and South Carolina before being assigned to the 18^th Corps. Some of their campaigns are Roanoke Island, Newbern, Whitehall, Goldsboro, Cherry Grove, Port Walthall Junction, Drury’s Bluff, Cold Harbor and the Siege of Petersburg just to name a few.
