The top bar of the badge is a white metal frame around a strip of celluloid that reads “9TH N. J. VET. VOLS.” From this is suspended a plain white ribbon with a cloth US flag on a printed silver pole. Attached to the end of this ribbon is a celluloid button with a photo of a veteran in civilian clothes. The back of the button reads “EIGHTEENTH ANNUAL REUNION SURVIVORS OF 9TH REG’T N. J. VET. VOLS. TRENTON, N. J. SEPTEMBER 16TH, 1903.

The item is in good condition with light surface dirt and some discoloration around the edges of the photograph. Pin is present on back.

The 9th New Jersey was active in North and South Carolina before being assigned to the 18th Corps. Some of their campaigns are Roanoke Island, Newbern, Whitehall, Goldsboro, Cherry Grove, Port Walthall Junction, Drury’s Bluff, Cold Harbor and the Siege of Petersburg just to name a few.
