Leather hat band stamp: “Extra-Quality/ Taylor/ Cor. Hanover & Court St/ Boston”. Interior stamp: “United Hatters of North America/ Registered/ 6 7/8”. High quality hat made of Fine & rich black felt, with silk trimmed outer edge, & crown band measuring 1.25” in height. Gold bullion cord with tassels, original gilt G.A.R crest, with number “12”, mounted at the front. 5” crown. 2.75” brim.
Outer edge trim is slightly frayed, as is the outer ribbon band. Otherwise this hat is immaculate, albeit slightly dusty. Interior leather band is in fine condition, though loose & removable. Bullion cord is also fine, though the right tassel knob is a bit frayed at the base. Superb G.A.R. crest. In all, a magnificent display piece that can also be worn, sparingly. Perfect for G.A.R. re-enactors.
