This book meas. approx. 5.00 x 7.00 inches and runs 278 pages. The book was published in 1886 and has paper covers. The front cover has the title “REGISTER FO THE DEPARTMENT OF CALIFORNIA GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC 1886” with a full color GAR membership badge at center. The back cover has a full color Department of California GAR badge and states that it is the “OFFICIAL BADGE OF THE 20TH NATIONAL ENCAMPMENT…” The covers are dirty and show some wear with a crease running down the middle of both the front and back covers.

The interior pages have also become somewhat dirty from age, storage and use. The first four pages are loose but the rest of the book is tight. The book lists all the GAR Posts in California by name and number. All officers of each post are given. What is even better is that all the members of each post are listed alphabetically along with their Company and Regiment served with during the war and their home address in 1886.

This is a GREAT research tool for anyone interested in Civil War veterans or California veterans in particular.
