This stamped brass item was used as a top bar on many GAR ribbons. It meas. approx. 2.50 inches long. The bar is in the shape of a horizontal Roman column with clamshell ferns at each end. At center are the raised letters “GAR’ while across the top and bottom edge is a line of dotes.
The reverse has the original pin and the bottom edge has three triangular prongs. These prongs were used to attach a ribbon to the bar. The prongs would be forced through the ribbon material and then bent over.
