Cast brass rectangular sword belt plate as used by Union veterans. Plate is convex and the face has the raised letters “GAR” at center surrounded by a raised linear decoration.
Plate has a brass keeper on one end and the reverse has a narrow brass tongue.
The entire plate has a light surface patina and the reverse has a green discoloration. The recessed areas around the base of the letters are also discolored from an attempted cleaning.
