This sterling silver spoon has a stem that is heavily decorated starting at the top with “IRON CITY” above a blacksmith with an upraised hammer about to strike a chain on an anvil. The rest of the spoon’s stem leading down to the bowl is taken up with “PITTSBURG.”
The bowl is entirely taken up with a scene showing the inside of a mill with a huge water wheel and workers moving iron sheets.
The back of the spoon is decorated at the top of the stem with what looks like a tire within a scroll surrounded by scrollwork. Beneath this is “GAR” over “1894.” Below the date are crossed hammers. Just above the bowl on the reverse is “STERLING.” [AD]
