Badge is surmounted by a large spread-winged eagle over crossed cannons and artillery shells. Reverse has the original pin. Suspended from this top piece is a gold silk ribbon approx. 5 inches long.
The top bar has several drops. The first is of brass and is in the shape of crossed flags with a medallion that bears the year “1914” at bottom while at center is a red, white and blue intertwined “GAR.”
The second drop is of white metal and shows a scene of Washington crossing the Delaware with a riband at bottom that reads “DETROIT.”
The final drop is a bronze circular disc with a bust profile of Washington Gardner, Commander –in-Chief of the GAR. During the war Gardner served in an odd unit titled Departmental Corps Ohio Infantry Company. He saw no action.
Ribbon has some stress separations and is missing a small piece on the bottom but the rest is excellent. [ad]
