Top brass hanger shows a raised image of the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. with, “OCT. 8TH 1902” flanking image. Original pin is on the reverse. Suspended from this is a gold colored ribbon with silver lettering that reads, “NATL. ASSN. U. EX. P.OF W.” Ribbon holds a brass ring from which hangs the lower round brass medal. At the center is the association logo of a prisoner being attacked by a dog inside a stockade with a cannon in each corner pointing toward the prisoner. Above image are the initials, “U. Ex. P.W.” Wording that borders image reads, “DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR”. Raised lettering encircling lower medal reads, “G.A.R. 36TH NATIONAL ENCAMPMENT”.

Measures 4” long. Ribbon some fraying and splitting but is still in one piece and displays well.  [sl]
