The top piece of this badge consists of cast metal crossed US flags with a GAR membership badge at center topped by “GAR” in a laurel wreath with a riband that reads “47TH ENCAMPMENT DEPT. OF NEW YORK.” The above rests on a rectangle that reads “SYRACUSE JUNE 12-13 1913.”

Suspended from the above is a blue ribbon approx. 1.50 inches long and reads “DELEGATE” in gold ink.

Drop has a bust of Oscar Smith at center surrounded by “DEPT. COMMANDER OSCAR SMITH.”

Oscar Smith served as a Private in Company G, 13th New York Infantry from 1861 to 1863. The regiment served with the Army of the Potomac from 1st Bull Run through Chancellorsville.

Top bar is present. Reverse of ribbon and drop have maker’s mark. Overall condition is good.  [ad]
