WORLD WAR TWO JAPANESE MEDAL IN THE ORIGINAL BOX

Medal consists of a white ribbon with an orange stripe on each end. The ribbon is folded into a triangular pattern. Attached to the ribbon is a star shaped drop with eight arms that end in a circle. At center is a mum surrounded by eight orbs on a field of orange enamel. The reverse of the drop has Japanese lettering at center.

The medal comes in a small box that when closed meas. approx. 3.50 inches long x 2.25 inches wide x 0.75 if an inch. The box appears to be made of tortoise shell with a small brass flip-up latch on one end. There is some Japanese writing on the lid. The inside of the box is padded and lined with purple silk. The bottom has a cutout to receive the ribbon and medal.

Both items are in good condition however most of the orange enamel has worn off the medal. The hinged box shows only light wear.

The medal is the Japanese Order of the Sacred Treasure-8th Class. It is awarded to those who have made distinguished achievements in research fields, business industries, healthcare, social work, state/local government fields or the improvement of life for handicapped/impaired persons.
