Patriotic silk handkerchief is bordered in American flags. Image in center is of a soldier kissing his sweetheart goodbye as he is heading off to war. In the background are a spread winged eagle, the American flag and soldiers in combat. Printed wording reads, “GREETINGS FROM CAMP HANCOCK, AUGUSTA, GA.”, followed by a poem which reads, “THE FAREWELL-  WHEN WAR CLOUDS HOVER O’ER THE LAND WE READ OF HEROES BRAVE, OUR OFFICERS ON LAND AND SEA, O’ER THEM WE FAIRLY RAVE; THE REAL DEFENDERS ARE FORGOT, THE MEN WHO FIRE THE GUN. ‘TIS THEY WHO’LL SHIELD THE STARS AND STRIPES, GOD BLESS THEM EV’RY MOTHER’S SON! Measures 17 inches square. Some light surface dirt is present and color in areas has slightly faded. Silk fabric has a tiny hole and a few small places where it is starting to split and could go into holes if not treated delicately.  [sm]
