This leather bound booklet meas. approx. 4.25 x 5.75 inches and runs 14 pages. It comes with the matching slipcase and is embossed in gold on the cover with a likeness of the German Sports Badge with the word “URKUNDE” or “CERTIFICATE.”

Mounted inside the booklet is a photograph of the recipient, Ernst Schulz who lived in Hamburg, Germany and was born on July 5, 1922. One of the pages in the pre-printed document states that he was awarded the sports badge in bronze for scoring 956 on his testing which took place on November 5, 1942. The page awarding the badge is filled out in ink and bears the eagle and swastika proof stamp. The rest of the book is blank. Most likely Ernst ended up in the Army with no more time for sports.

Hitler elevated the SA Sports Badge to diploma status in his efforts to motivate and unify all the German people. This award was not limited to SA members but was open to any German over the age of 17 who wished to qualify for it. The SA did sponsor this award and monitored the training and testing for it. The components for qualification included ideological and racial conformity, medical fitness as well as training and testing in paramilitary activities, 100 meter dash, 3000 meter run, shotput, long jump, grenade throwing, marching, shooting, map reading, reconnaissance etc…

Tucked inside the back of the booklet is another smaller 8 page booklet titled “MILITARY BADGE EXERCISE BOOK.” This is not filled.

Both items are in excellent condition.  [ad]
