TWO PANEL SECTION OF CEILING TILE WITH SWASTIKA

$250.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 954-67

This section of ceiling panel consists of two connected squares each approx. 23.50 x 24.25 inches long. They are made of stamped sheet metal or tin with a raised border at the edge and a raised square at center with a raised swastika at center of the square. Both tiles are screwed together along one edge and together they meas. approx. 48.00 inches in length. At present they are folded over along their seam for easier storage.

The face has been painted a gold color and looks to be a repaint. Reverse has the original finish with dark stains from age and remains of the white paint that was on the ceiling it once covered.

The swastika was used as a good luck symbol for centuries before the Nazi’s got a hold of it and adopted it for their use. After the end of World War Two GI’s were taking home as souvenirs anything that was not nailed down, especially if it had a swastika on it. It is not beyond the realm of possibility that this was removed from some government building in Germany either during or after the war and was salvaged or taken by someone as a souvenir.  [ad]
