Nice silver ID bracelet named to Ernest W. Hoops who served as an enlisted man in the 77th Division and then went to officer’s candidate school and was assigned to the 28th Division.

The oval face of the bracelet meas. approx. 1.50 0.75 inches. It is engraved with a feathered border and Hoops name at center. Above his name a flying arrow is engraved and below the name is “USA.”

Faintly scratched around the edge is “306TH INF. 110TH INF. HDQ TROOP / 77TH 28TH 4TH CORPS.” Then at center is “SERGEANT NOV. 11, 17 / 2ND LIEUT. JULY 13, 18 / 1ST LIEUT. NOV. 5, 18.” He flanks this with his dates overseas “OCT 1, ‘17” and “NOV 11, 18.”

Ernest W. Hoops was born on July 10, 1894 in New York City. He was drafted into the army on September 30, 1917 and was given serial number 2448305. He was assigned to Company E, 306th Infantry, 77th Division. Hoops was promoted to sergeant on November 1, 1917 and sailed to France in April of 1918.

On July 12, 1918 Hoops was discharged to accept a commission as 2nd lieutenant in Company I, 110th Infantry, 28th Division. He served with his Company during the Oise-Aisne and Muse-Argonne campaigns. He was promoted to 1st lieutenant on November 5, 1918 and later attached to Headquarters of the 4th Corps.

After the war Hoops sailed home onboard the SS IMPERATOR leaving Brest, France on May 15, 1919 and arriving in New York City on May 23, 1919. He was honorably discharged on May 24, 1919.

Sometime after the war Hoops moved to Rhode Island where he died in March of 1971. He is buried in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence, Rhode Island.  [ad]
