MODEL 1942 SINGLE DECAL GERMAN ARMY HELMET

$550.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 858-02

The last wartime upgrade to the standard Wehrmacht helmet took place on 6 July 1942 as part of an overall restructuring of Germany’s wartime production efforts.   At the request of the Army High Command, the rolled edge found on M1935 and M1940 helmets was discontinued as a measure of economy.  On 1 August 1942 the first M1942 helmets were placed into production.

This helmet retains approx. 90% of its original paint with some loss on the underside of the rim and scattered small spots on the exterior. The right side of the visor has some surface rust. The Army eagle decal on the left side of the helmet is 90% intact with some scratches and material loss to the bottom of the swastika. The right side of the helmet has a rubbed area in the partial shape of the national tri-color decal. Looks as though the decal was rubbed off but on this style helmet the decal should not have been there at all.

The interior of the helmet has its original leather liner which is complete but shows moderate wear and some peeling of the surface layer of leather. No chinstrap. Liner is marked with a size number of 58.

This helmet is marked “hkP64” inside the back skirt. This shows the helmet was produced at Sächsische Emaillier und Stanzwerke A.G.  Beginning in 1935 this factory served as a primary manufacturer of steel helmets for the German Armed Forces. The size is 64. Lot number is “3464.” Inspector’s mark is present in crown.
