US WORLD WAR ONE MODEL 1917 HELMET WITH PAINTED 4TH CORPS INSIGNIA

Standard issue American made US Model 1917 helmet with OD painted exterior and light sand finish. Exterior shows light wear from age use and storage. There are no dents or rust spots.

Interior of helmet is complete with a good oilcloth liner and leather chinstrap. Small dot of white paint with collection number found near chinstrap keeper.

Painted on the front is a blue and white 4th Corps insignia which is a little smaller than that normally seen. Insignia is 100% intact.

Back of helmet has “55th ENG/ USA” in pencil.

The 4th Corps saw action in the St. Mihiel and Muse-Argonne operations and the occupation of Germany.

This helmet is from the collection of the late Bob Jones of McSherrystown, Pa. Bob was a World War Two Navy veteran who collected World War One items from his youth.
