This belt was designed for wear by the BAR rifleman’s assistant. It has 4 large pockets to accommodate 8 magazines and 2 pockets on each side for .306 rifle clips. All have the “lift-dot” closure system. The 4 large pockets have pointed flaps as opposed to an earlier version that had rounded flaps.
The center size adjustment belt is marked on the reverse “LONG 3-18.” Left side is marked on reverse with crossed rifles with a “347” above and “B” below.
347th Infantry was assigned to the 87th Division which was a National Army division made up of men drawn mostly from Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. The division was activated at Camp Pike, Arkansas on 25 August 1917 and went to France in September 1918. It was utilized as a pool of laborers and then ordered into the trenches but the war ended before the division completed its movement to the front. It returned to the Continental US in January 1919 to Camp Dix, New Jersey, and was deactivated in February 1919.
Belt is in good used condition with light to moderate surface dirt from age and storage. [ad]
