These Parrott time fuses were made of a white metal compound, primarily zinc and lead. These are fuse adaptors as they held the actual time fuse.

This measures 2 3/8” long overall, and 1 1/4” in diameter at the top flange. There are two spanner holes on the top surface to tighten the fuse into the shell using a special wrench.

This relatively simple fuse was activated by setting a paper time fuse in the center hole, which would ignite upon firing. The burn time would be predetermined by the length or type of the paper fuse. This version features a flat top with flange, shank is partially threaded, bottom section is tapered and not threaded.

A leather washer would have been installed under the flange, this was designed to minimize gas leaks around the fuse which could cause premature detonations.

Top of flange features a raised "W", representing Parrott’s operation located in the West Point Foundry at Cold Spring, New York.
