TINNED BOX FOR 100 “FRICTION TUBES” FROM FRANKFORD ARSENAL 1861

$495.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 2022-340

This once-Japanned tin box measures approximately 4” wide x 2.5” deep x 2.25” high. Nearly all the brown Japanned lacquer finish has worn off the tin. The lid is attached by two hinges on the back and held closed by a spring clip at the front. Lid features raised lettering within an oval: “FRICTION TUBES / -- 100 -- / Frankford Arsenal / 1861”.

Friction primers were small ignition devices used to fire Civil War-era artillery pieces.

This tin box remains very solid and strong. The combination of the gray tin, remnants of the lacquer, and some light surface rust all combine to make the raised lettering slightly difficult to read. Inside of box is mostly clean and bright. A single friction primer remains inside and comes with the box. [jet] [ph:L]

Shipment via UPS required.
