John Churchill was created Duke of Marlborough services to Queen Anne during the Wars of Spanish Secession, 1701-14, which pitted England and a coalition of European allies against the France of Louis IV. Churchill’s victories at Blenheim [1704], Ramillies [1706] Oudenarde [1708], and Malplaquet [1709] place him in the front rank of historic European military commanders. His most notable descendant was Winston Spencer Churchill, the WWII British Prime Minister, who wrote an excellent biography of his equally notable ancestor. For Churchill collectors, this set of Marlborough’s dispatches will go nicely with Sir Winston’s biography of the Great Duke. All volumes protected with transel-wrap.

Note that portions of the text are written in French.  [jp]
