Paperback volume with a blue paper cover that has very busy patriotic artwork showing a Zouave holding a battle-scarred flag in one hand and a sword in the other. Behind him is a spread-winged eagle on top of a book, piled on a fascine over a pedestal with a bust of George Washington. Next to that is a scene of sailors on the deck of a ship working a cannon.

Across the top is “THE WAR FOR THE UNION!!” the actual title written on the cover reads “THE WAR WITH THE SOUTH A HISTORY OF THE GREAT AMERICAN REBELLION BY ROBERT TOMES MD” and published in 1864 by Virtue & Yorston, New York.

Pamphlet meas. approx. 9.00 x 11.50 inches and runs 50 pages including a black and white full-page portrait of Union General John Pope and a full color map of the battle of Gettysburg. The rest of the issue covers the French in Mexico, Acts of the 37th Congress, an address by Jefferson Davis, Emancipation Proclamation and a good bit on the Siege of Vicksburg.

This pamphlet was issued in serial form with this edition being parts 49 and 50.

The overall condition is excellent but this particular pamphlet was never read as every other page, though printed with text, is still uncut.   [AD] [ph:L]
