Both volumes are hardcovers with slightly sun faded dustjackets which are in fair to good condition otherwise. Both volumes meas. approx. 8.75 x 12.50 inches.
The first of the volumes was published 1979 and covers ships from 1860-1905, including the US Navy during the Civil War. This volume runs 440 pages with index.
The second volume was published in 1985 and covers from 1906-1921. This volume runs 439 pages with index.
Each of the books lists ships by nation and then by class within the national heading. Each entry has either a photograph or line drawing of the ship being discussed along with pertinent information such as builder, laying of the keel, launched date, completion date and fate. The text also discusses each class of ship with details on construction, armament, displacement, dimensions, armor and crew size.
Bindings are good. Page edges show some light surface dirt but the interior is mostly clean. [ad] [ph:L]
