Various paginations, in blue glazed cloth, 6.5” x 9.5, w/gilt USMA cover ornament & spine lettering. Condition: Vol. 1, weak rear hinge, corners slightly rubbed—Vol. 2, Slightly weak rear hinge—Vol. 3, slightly weak rear hinge—Vol. 4, light rubbing head and foot—Vol. 5, no imperfections—Vol. 6-A, bumped corners, Pacific Union Club Library Stamp front eps—Vol. 6-B, slightly rubbed head and foot—Vol. 7, front spine cracking—Vol. 8, bumped corners, slightly worn head & foot—Vol. 9., slightly worn head & foot.

This set was owned Albert Payson, USMA, Class of 1868. He an Assistant USMA Professor of Mathematics, and later director of many corporations. He died in 1930 and willed this set to prestigious Pacific Union Club of San Francisco, which accounts for the Union Pacific Club library stamps in the later volumes.

In all, despite minor imperfections, a handsome and solid research set.   [jp]  [PH:L]
