The full title of this volume is “HISTORY OF THE THIRD REGIMENT EXCELSIOR BRIGADE 72ND NEW YORK VOLUNTEER INFANTRY 1861-1865.”

The author is Henri Le Fevre Brown who was a sergeant in Company D of the regiment. The book was published in 1902.

Volume is hardcover and meas. approx. 6.00 x 9.00 inches. The history runs 158 pages. The volume also has 11 black & white portraits of members of the regiment.

Covers are blue with a white 3rd Corps badge on the front cover. Title is embossed in gold on the spine. Both front and back covers show light to moderate wear.

The 72nd New York aka the 3rd Regiment Excelsior Brigade was raised in July of 1861. The regiment served in both the 3rd and 2nd Corps of the Army of the Potomac. They saw action on the Peninsula, 2nd Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wapping Heights, Bristoe Station, Mine Run, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, North Anna, Cold Harbor and Petersburg. During their service the regiment lost 12 officers and 238 enlisted men killed, died of wounds and disease. [AD] [PH:L]
