The Confederate Government of Wythe County, Virginia issued this allotment check, numbered 88 on the back and dated January 11th, 1864 to Emeline Green in the amount of twenty four dollars for the family of H. (Harold) Green, a soldier in the 45th Virginia Regiment. Signed by J.A. Sanders, Jr. [?], Comr. 5th District.
Harold Green was in Company D, 45th Virginia Infantry; he enlisted at Wytheville. Present or absent not stated on final roll (he could have been killed prior to 1864, captured prior to 1864 and released after the war, or died in prison. [ld] [ph:L]
