As the Civil War dragged on, patriotic songs such as this became very popular. This song sheet was published in 1864 by Joseph P. Shaw. Words and music by A.A. Hopkins. Ornate design frames wording on cover.

First verse of song reads, “Missing is all, And there’s no one that knows Where the missing one may be now, Perhaps through the valley of shadows he goes, Walking alone while his life blood flows, And the death seal is stamped on his brow. Missing, yes missing forever! He’s missing on earth ever more, But though missed from ranks here he is missing on earth ever more, But though missed from ranks here, he is not from those higher, and they’ll meet on the evergreen shore!” Four verses total.

Measures 10” x 13”. Six pages. Yellowing has occurred, with areas of spotting. Pages have become separated from stitching at the top and bottom. Shows chipping at left margin. [sl] [ph:L]
