The Confederate Government of Wythe County, Virginia issued this allotment check, numbered 112 on the back and dated January 27th, 1864 to Polly Hilton in the amount of eight dollars for the family of J. F. Hilton, a soldier in the 51st Virginia Regiment.  Signed by M. S. Steffey, Comr. 6 district. Countersigned on the reverse, “Polley Hilton / X / Her Mark”.

On 3/31/1862 Hilton mustered into "K" Co., 51st VA.  Date and method of discharge not given.  He was listed as: POW 3/2/1865 Waynesboro, VA; Confined 3/12/1865 Fort Delaware, DE; Released 6/20/1865 Fort Delaware, DE.  [ld] [ph:L]
