Quartermaster form #33 preprinted and filled out in period ink. Item meas. approx. 7.50 x 9.50 inches.

Document is dated August 15, 1863 at Stewarts Creek, Tennessee and states that Regimental Quartermaster Lieutenant F. H. Ruger issued 360 pounds of corn and 420 pounds of hay to Assistant Surgeon William Hamilton of the 102nd Illinois for 2 horses. Document is signed in two places by Hamilton.

Item has two faint horizontal folds but is in otherwise very good condition.

William Hamilton resided in Oneida, Illinois when he was commissioned assistant surgeon of the 102nd Illinois Infantry. He was promoted to surgeon on July 12, 1863 and was mustered out at Washington, D.C. on June 6, 1865.

The 102nd Illinois served in Tennessee until 1864 when they were assigned to the 12th and then the 20th Corps. They were engaged at Resaca, Cassville, Dallas, New Hope Church, Kennesaw Mountain, Peach Tree Creek, Atlanta, Averysboro and Bentonville.  [ad] [ph:L]
