This original card by well -known military artist C.J. Pugliese features an image of a Confederate soldier leaning on his musket. He is wearing a slouch hat and carrying a blanket roll, Bowie knife and canteen with, “1^ST VA WA”. Image is clear with good contrast. Colors are bright. Card is signed by Pugliese on the lower right. Sticker on reverse state, “FROM THE ARTIST CARL J. PUGLIESE TO WILLIAM A. ALBAUGH, III, DECEMBER, 1970”.

Card measures 3 ¾” x 6”, is matted and housed in wood frame. Frame measures approx. 9” x 11 ½”. Frame is in very good condition. Reverse has wire for hanging purposes.

Carl J. Pugliese was born in New York City in 1918.  From a very early age he had a great interest in United States military history and weapons.  He studied art at the School of Visual Arts, New York City specializing in military and historical illustration.  The four years he served in the United States Army increased his interest in the study of weapons of the past.  Following his military service, he began the specialized study of Confederate arms and accoutrements, and later collected extensively in that field.  His art training and dedication to the subjects that most interested him, led to several covers for the collector’s journal Muzzle Blasts Magazine, as well as numerous other artistic contributions.   [SM]
