Sixteen-page issue that starts with an article on the new monument to George Washington erected in New York’s Union Park. Bottom of the front page shows the equestrian statue of Washington on its pedestal surrounded by an iron fence. Next, the two-page spread at center depicts the insane asylum at Northampton, Massachusetts which was under construction at the time. There is also a comparison drawing of the militia of 1776 and the militia of today (1856.) The last page has two drawings related to Jeddo, Japan which would later become Tokyo.

Issue is complete and in good condition for its age with minor scattered foxing and light surface dirt. [ad] [ph:L]
