Dated “New York, July 2, 1863.” No. 457—Vol. XVIII. 16 pp. [225-240], 11 x 15”, four columns w/ numerous stories, illustrations and cartoons. Front cover story features “Grant On the South Side of Richmond,” detailing his pull out from Cold Harbor and lightening march below Richmond for Petersburg. Front features two classy illustrations of Yanks and Rebs trading during a lull in the fighting.

Also a full page depiction of “The War in Virginia—Butler’s Lines South of the James, With Troops in Position Near Our centre, Awaiting an Attack Previous to the Arrival of Grant’s Army, June 3.” Plus a dramatic panoramic centerfold of “Grant’s Campaign in Virginia—Repulse of Lee’s Night Attack on Smith’s Brigade, Hancock’s Corps, Friday June 3.”

Slightly fragile, exhibits light chipping at the margins. Else good plus. Solid Frank Leslie’s summer of ’64 collectible. In protective sleeve, w/white card backing.  [jp] [ph:L]
