Porter (commanding Mississippi Flotilla) and Major General John A. McClernand., and a depiction of the “Bombardment of the Post of Arkansas, January 11, 1863.” Also a full page illustration (from top to bottom) of Western Ironclads rams—“Indianola”, “Choctaw”, and Lafayette.” As well as a truly extraordinary (and ghastly) double page montage of southern atrocities, titled Southern Chivalry: Dedicated to Jeff Davis”, executed by famed Harper’s Weekly Illustrator Thomas Nast.
Its scenes include “Murder pf Two of Piatt’s Zouaves, 34th Ohio”—“Throwing sick and wounded U.S. Soldiers In the Road To Die”—Massacre of Negroes at Murfreesboro Pike’—“The Murder of General Robert L. McCook.” Centerpiece feature Rebel holding a bloody severed Union head.
