This is the Krag – Jorgensen bayonet used on the model 1892 Krag rifle.

The unsharpened blade is bright and very clean. It meas. approx. 11.50 inches long with a central fuller that is approx. 8.00 inches long. Ricasso is marked “US” on one side and “1898” on the other. Edge is free of any nicks. Overall, the blade is excellent.

The hilt has a bird head iron pommel and a flat iron guard with “o” ring. The wood grips are in good condition with some wear around the two iron rivets. Mortise and button attachment work well. Hilt is in overall nice condition.

The steel scabbard is the Type 2 introduced in 1895. The front side has a dark patina with some hints of blue however the reverse side is bright with peppered mottling. [ad] [ph:m]
