The leather on this Model 1855 bayonet scabbard is well used. The scabbard is the eight rivet variety with a frog that is missing one rivet and has folded over on itself but is solid. There is also some surface finish loss. The center seam running down the body of the scabbard is closed tight. The body shows some moderate scattered surface crackling throughout. The brass finial is missing one brass brad.
The blade of the bayonet is bright with only very light mottling over the entire surface with a worn “US” stamping on the flat. The socket has a heavy scattered mottling with a free moving locking ring. [ad] [ph:L]
