PRUSSIAN M1809 POTSDAM SOCKET BAYONET

Item Code: 172-5696

In the early months of the war, arms from overseas were imported for army use. The Union army purchased both flintlock and percussion variations of the Prussian M1809 Potsdam. The bayonet pictured here was to be used with that very musket.  Not all of the accoutrements would accompany the European imports.  U.S arsenals went straight to work fashioning bayonets and other items to accompany the arms. Arsenals would use the M1855 style blade and remodel the socket to fit muskets such as the Prussian Potsdam. [mk] [ph:L]
