Standard Model 1855 socket bayonet with a good and strong “US” stamped on the blade and a working locking ring on the socket. Metal surfaces are dark throughout with scattered spots of surface rust.

Leather scabbard is complete but in poor condition. On the plus side the frog and brass finial are present. Frog is held by eight copper rivets and shows faint maker’s and inspector’s marks.

On the minus side the leather on the frog is heavily worn. Surface crackling and some finish loss obscure the markings. The seam running down the back has split and there is one small tear about halfway down the body. A wooden dowl has been inserted to help the leather keep its shape.

The wooden dowl can be removed and the bayonet reinserted if so desired.

Both pieces will display okay side by side. [ad] [ph:L]
