This is a good example of the saber bayonet for the Lancaster oval-bore sappers and miner’s carbine.

This uses an attractive brass hilt with black pressed leather grips secured with rivets and has an impressive falchion blade with false edge and pipe back. The bayonet is 29” long overall with a 24” long blade. The ricasso is stamped with “WD / broad arrow,” and “[crown] / S / 14,” and a bow & arrow logo, and what appears to be two R’s facing each other. The spine is stamped with a crown and various numbers.

Brass cross guard is unmarked, with muzzle ring and two round quillions. The typical English checkered leather grips show light wear but are otherwise in fine condition. The spring latch and button still operate smoothly. The brass pommel is stamped “R.A.M.C.” and several numbers on one side.

This piece was “sold out of service” as designated by two English Broad Arrow stamps facing each other found on both sides of the pommel.

Overall condition is good. The grip portion being very fine and the blade showing light surface rust overall. No scabbard.  [jet][ph:L]
