MODEL 1840 MUSICIAN’S SWORD & SCABBARD BY EMERSON & SILVER DATED 1863

This musician’s sword is full-length. The blade is bright with light mottling and scattered pitting on the bottom third. Blade meas. approx. 28.00 inches long. The edge has several small nicks. The ricasso is marked on one side “EMERSON & SILVER, TRENTON N.J.” while the opposite side is marked “US” with inspector’s initials of “D.F.M.” above the date “1863.” Leather washer at the base of the ricasso is gone.

Standard cast brass hilt with ribbed grip, round pommel cap and thin knuckle bow ending in a quillon. Knuckle bow is stamped with the same inspector’s initials of “D. F. M.” Hilt shows some light spots of oxidation.

Scabbard is blued metal as is proper for Emerson & Silver swords. The scabbard body is in very nice condition. Both the brass drag and throat with frog stud are present. Drag is marked with inspector initials of “D. F. M.” Brass throat has some minor scratches as does the drag. Scabbard is free of dents. [ad] [ph:L]
