The drawn saber meas. approx. 41.00 inches from point to pommel. The blade meas. approx. 35.00 inches with a central fuller that is 27.50 inches long. The surface of the blade has been nickeled and it is now semi-bright with heavy scattered mottling and some light pitting. The edge has one or two small nicks about a third of the way down the blade. The obverse ricasso has a worn “U.S.” over inspector’s initials “J.C.W.” with the date “186-” at bottom. The last digit of the year has totally worn away. The reverse ricasso is blank. Remains of the leather washer are present.

The hilt has a leather covered grip with twisted wire wrap. The leather shows little wear and the twisted wire wrap is 100% intact. The brass pommel cap, knuckle bow and counterguard have a light patina with some dark spots of oxidation. Pommel cap has worn inspector’s initials of “J.C.W.”

Metal scabbard is complete with both mounts and rings. Throat is missing. The surface of the scabbard was nickeled and is now turning dark with oxidation and a light coat of surface rust. Scabbard is free of dents. [ad] [ph:L]
