The drawn curved blade meas. approx. 34.75 inches long with a 27.00 inch long stopped fuller and 18.75 inch narrow fuller. The surface is bright with very, very little mottling and no pitting. The edge is free of nicks. The reverse ricasso has a rubbed mark of “C. ROBY” over an arc of “W. CHELMSFORD” over “MASS.” The obverse ricasso is marked “U.S.” over “1865” of the inspector’s initials of “A.G.M.” Leather washer is 100% intact at the base of the ricasso.
The hilt is in good condition and is tightly attached to the blade. The grip consists of a turned wooden handle wrapped with black bridle leather and encircled with twisted brass wire all in good condition. Leather shows minor to moderate surface wear. Wire is tight. The pommel cap and guard are of the usual style found on the Model 1860 and have a nice untouched dark patina.
The iron scabbard is undented. Scabbard surface exhibits an oxidized appearance with light scattered surface pitting and a nice dark patina. Both mounts and rings are present as is the throat and drag. The drag also bears the inspector’s initials of “A.G.M.” [ad] [ph:L]
