The .50 caliber Gallager carbine saw extensive use during the Civil War with total production going over 17,000.

The weapon offered here has a walnut butt stock. Wood has attractive deep color. One light cartouche behind sling bar. Minor dings and saddle wear from use.

The 22 ¼” long, round barrel has perfect smooth, even patina. Large front sight and flip-up rear sight are present. All gun metal surfaces are smooth with even dark patina. Lever action operates smoothly and hammer / trigger action remains strong. Cone is slightly hammered down. Bore is clean with very light pitting with good rifling.  Lock plate is marked “GALLAGER’S PATENT / JULY 17th, 1860” and “MANUFACTD BY / RICHARDSON & OVERMAN / PHILADA / 16230”. Sling bar and ring remain on left side. Iron butt plate and hinged patchbox share nice condition and patina.
